AC-Coupled Battery Systems
An AC-coupled battery has its own inverter and can work alongside your existing solar inverter. Your solar panels produce DC electricity, which your solar inverter converts into AC power for your property. The battery’s inverter converts available AC power back into DC for storage, then into AC when needed.
This can be a practical option when your existing solar inverter is compatible and working well.
DC-Coupled Battery Systems
A DC-coupled battery uses a compatible hybrid inverter to manage solar generation and battery storage. Solar panels produce DC electricity, which the hybrid inverter can convert into AC power for your property or direct into the battery for storage. Stored electricity is converted into AC when needed. Fewer energy conversions during charging can improve efficiency. This setup can suit new solar installations or upgrades involving inverter replacement.

You may not need to replace your existing solar inverter to add battery storage.
